How to check in a guest at 2 a.m. without getting up

The flight is late, the bus arrives at midnight, the guest writes "I'll be there around two". Prepared well, a late check-in is an ordinary check-in, only you are not there.

Late arrivals cannot be avoided: delayed flights, long drives, guests from other time zones. If check-in depends on you, each of them is a sleepless night. If the guest lets themselves in, it is not.

1. Let the guest get in on their own

The basis is self check-in: the guest unlocks the door without you. With Atrino they get a link for their stay and unlock the door with their phone from check-in to check-out, at any hour. How it works: Self check-in for Airbnb and Booking.com.

Create the invitation right after the booking and send the guest the link. Ask them to open it and confirm it with the SMS code before they set off, while they are relaxed and have signal. Then the key is already in their phone when they arrive.

They need no app: the key works in the browser too.

3. Make the way easy

At night the guest is tired and the entrance is dark. It helps to have:

  • The exact address and a pin on the map. The guest’s page shows the address and a button for directions.
  • Photos of the building and the entrance in the place, so they know what to look for.
  • A short description: which entrance, which floor, which door. Send it with the link.
  • Lighting at the entrance, if it is up to you.

4. Know when they have arrived

You do not have to stay up to know that all is well. Atrino sends you a notification when the guest unlocks for the first time: “Maria has arrived”. With a door sensor you also see whether the door closed behind them.

5. If something goes wrong

  • The guest can call you with one button from their key’s page, if you have added your phone to your profile.
  • You can unlock the door from the app, from anywhere, if they do not manage.
  • If a controller is without its connection for more than 5 minutes, you get a notification and an email, so you find out in time, not when the guest is at the door.

A short checklist

  • The invitation is created and the link sent
  • The guest has confirmed the code in advance
  • The address, the pin and photos of the entrance are in the place
  • The guest knows which entrance and which door
  • Arrival notifications are on on your phone

With this, a late check-in is just a check-in. The guest gets in at 2 a.m., and you find out in the morning from the notification.
